Statement by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni on the loss of Melpo Zarokosta

Informed of the loss of Melpo Zarokosta, Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni made the following statement:

I was particularly saddened to learn of the loss of Melpo Zarokosta, who had a fruitful career spanning decades in the Arts. With solid acting studies in Australia, she began her long career there, performing demanding roles in the classical and contemporary repertoire from an early age, contributing particularly to the development of the theater of the large Greek community. Returning to Greece, Melpo Zarokosta rightfully earned a prominent position both on stage and on the big screen, through which she was introduced and became particularly beloved by the general public, to continue with selective appearances on television.

A performer of great range, wide caliber and distinct imprint, Melpo Zarokosta deservedly honored every role she faced. Her great dedication to Art and its diffusion is attested by her multifaceted involvement with it, as she was not limited to acting, but systematically devoted herself to translating and adapting works for the theater, radio and the small screen. She was always a discreet and modest presence in the space, always standing far from unnecessary and pointless projection, something that lavishly offered her the love and appreciation of her fellow artists.

I extend my most sincere condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
