Individual tourists vaccinated against Covid-19 will be able to enter Israel from next month, the government announced today, further easing restrictions on foreign arrivals that have remained in effect since the pandemic began.

A joint plan by the Ministries of Tourism and Health and Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will allow foreigners vaccinated over the past six months with Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson vaccines to enter the country from 1 November. and Sinopharm.

According to the plan, those infected with Covid-19 can also enter Israel, provided they have received a dose of vaccine approved by the World Health Organization.

The plan is subject to cabinet approval and “will be updated in line with developments and the discovery of new variants,” the joint statement said.

On Sunday, Bennett told government ministers that as we manage the gradual exit from the Delta variant wave, we are preparing for the “Omega” scenario, the code name for a new variant.

Israel’s borders have remained largely closed to foreigners since March 2020. In recent months, the country has allowed small groups of vaccinated tourists and first-degree relatives of Israelis to enter.

The Ministry of Tourism is pushing hard to allow all vaccinated tourists to enter. The Israeli economy is open with the exception of the hard-hit tourism industry.

The Ministry of Health recommended caution, given the possibility of new variants of the coronavirus.

In 2019, it recorded a record 4.55 million tourist visitors, contributing 23 billion shekels ($ 7.2 billion) to the country’s economy.

With daily infections almost eliminated in June, Israel was ready to open to all foreign tourists at the height of the summer season, but the Delta variant led to an increase in infections, postponing these plans.

Yesterday Wednesday, 1,021 people were diagnosed with the virus. While there are more than 15,000 active cases, only 331 are considered serious.
